강의듣기

The Pursuit of Happyness

I met my father for the first time when I was 28 years old. When I had children, my children wouldn’t know who their father was. Chris Gardener was doing his best.

Doctors: “We don’t need two; we need only one.”

Chris: “Maybe next quarter.”

A doctor: “It’s possible.”

But his best wasn’t enough.

Chris: “Hoo, man, I’ve got two questions for you: What do you do and how you do it?

Car owner: I am a stockbroker.”

Chris: “Oh, a stockbroker…”

Car owner: “I am going to let you hang on with my car for the weekend but I need it back on Monday.”

Car owner: “Feed the meter.”

Renter: “I need the rent. I can’t wait anymore. I need you get out of here in the morning.

Chris: “You got to trust me, alright?

Son: “I trust you.”

Chris: “Because I am getting the better job.”

The worker: “See if I can find you an application for our internship.”

Son: “Did mom leave because of me?”

Chris: “Mom left because of mom and you didn’t have anything to do with it.”

Chris: “There is no salary.”

Worker: “No.”

Chris: “I was not aware of that. My circumstances have changed some.”

Son: “Dad, where are we going?”

Chris: “I don’t know.”

Educator: “Last year we had an intern scored 90% on the written exam. But he wasn’t chosen. It is not a simple past fact.”

CEO: “You are quitting on the shit, are you?”

Chris: “Don’t ever let somebody tell you, “you can’t do something,”— not even me. Alright?”

Son: “Alright.”

CEO: “They say you’re pretty determined.”

Driver: “Where are you going? Go to the hospital.”

Chris: “I’m in a competitive internship with Dean Witter.

CEO: “He said you are smart.”

Worker: “This is impossible.”

Chris: “I can do it.”

Worker: “No, you can’t. No one can.”

Son: “You are a good papa.”

Chris: “If you’ve got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves they want to tell you, “you can’t do it. … if you want something, go get it, period.”
